Road Recovery benefit concert

91. Go to three concerts. (1/3)

The Road Recovery concert last night was really fantastic.  Every act was allowed two songs and they each came on the stage, set up, performed, and left - all really professionally.  It was all about no egos, supporting a good cause.

Perry Farrell is still one of the best frontmen ever.  His presence is utterly amazing.  Iggy Pop was incredible.  The hubby and I were trying to remember how old he is so we looked it up when we got home.  Lo and behold, Iggy Pop is two months older than my dad, i.e. 62 years old!  (Well, Iggy turned 62 last month; my dad will be 62 next month.)  His energy and the physical condition he's in are so remarkable.  I saw that crazy stage guy that Henry Rollins always describes.

The "smaller", lesser-known acts were great and punctuated by appearances by Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Gilby Clarke (Guns N Roses), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Billy Bragg, Don Was, and Juliette Lewis was a surprise guest.

My top 5 moments of the night:

5. Host Matt Pinfield telling us he announced earlier in the day that he's going back into rehab on Monday.  I applaud him for being open and honest.

4. Seeing Iggy Pop live.

3. Seeing Juliette Lewis cover AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds."  She SERIOUSLY rocked it out; it was AMAZING.

2. Seeing Street Sweeper Social Club, Tom Morello's new band.  They ROCKED.  Their debut album comes out June 16, 2009 and they'll be opening up for NIN and Jane's Addiction on the NIN/JA tour.  I totally want to go.

1. Watching Jerry Cantrell cover Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" for all the musicians the world has lost to addiction.  It's one of my very favorite songs of all time and he did a wonderful job with it.

It was a super cool evening; the hubby and I had a lot of fun.
