New Word Wednesday
Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 2:28PM This may be a new feature here on Bookish Penguin if I have the time to keep up with it (I wish I could write about work here because, boy, would I have posts-a-zillion, but alas - I would prefer not to get dooced).

Word of the week: Moratorium
Definition: noun -1. a suspension of activity; 2. a legally authorized period to delay payment of money due or the performance of some other legal obligation, as in an emergency; 3. an authorized period of delay or waiting. (source: Dictionary.com)
"Due to new rules and regulations, there is currently a moratorium on fundraising, so we will not be able to hold our bake sale this Friday."
Inspiration: I was in a meeting today and someone told a group of students that there was a "mortertorium" on an activity and then asked if they knew what a "mortertorium" was. They didn't and so this person said, "Oh, good, then 'mortertorium' can be a new word for you all today" as I sat there thinking, "In more ways than you realize." Sigh.
