7 Quick Tuesday Takes
Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 11:30AM Haven't done this one in a while, but it's perfect for this icy, messy day.
1. The Pioneer Woman's book, Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, comes out today and due to our financial restrictions, I can't go buy it. Excuse me while I indulge myself in a whine for a moment: waaaaaahhhhhh.
Okay, I'll get over it now. I should be able to get it next week. I'll live.
2. Today, instead of another boatload of snow being dumped on us, we have a bit of an ice storm. Nothing at all like they're dealing with in the Midwest, so I don't want to complain, but it's a nuisance.
3. It's the second week of grad school and I'm already behind on the reading. Augh. I have to read 400 page of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass for class... tonight... 5pm. Basically, it's not going to happen.
4. We filed our taxes today. (Well, okay, the hubby did - have I ever mentioned that I've never, not once, done my taxes myself? My dad is an accountant, so that's a no-brainer - he's always done mine - or, more accurately, I sat with him while he did them. It's not like I dropped off my W2 and skipped off. But now the hubby does them - and, frankly, I'm fine with this.) Anyhoo, we are getting a good refund (thanks Nate, the most adorable tax deduction on the planet), so that will be helpful.
5. My student loan money is coming soon, which means we'll be able to catch up on bills and have a small reserve to pay for things as we need to until the hubby find work. It's really petrifying to me to have no resources at all right now and have the job market be so insanely terrible.
6. Buster has been having some, um, intestinal issues the past two days because brilliant me gave him part of an egg I was eating on Sunday. Buster, you will never, ever, ever have an egg again.
7. There's a little drama going on about the 30 for 30 Remix Challenge. There's a blog post about how it's boring and limiting and a bunch of people responded defending why they do it. In skimming through this drama last night, I saw several responses that said they didn't see the point in limiting themselves to just 10% of their wardrobe. 30 working, wearable, seasonal pieces = 10% of your wardrobe? Wow. There is a whole place of privilege that those arguments are coming from, then. I guess if I had 300+ items in my actively rotating wardrobe, I probably wouldn't want to limit myself either (and that's fine - why should you have to if you've worked hard enough to earn and pay for all those clothes) but I like looking at all the challenge participants to get ideas for how to use/re-use/re-see various clothing items. I wear the same things over and over in the same way nearly every time and I definitely want to change that.
In the end, though, does a little blogging challenge really deserve any drama at all? I don't think so, but people seem to have free time. Perhaps they want to read Through the Looking Glass for me and report back on it prior to 5pm today.
Happy Tuesday! I hope it's warm and not icy where you are.
