Watching and rewatching Harry
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 10:48PM Anyone else unable to stop watching the new Harry Potter trailer?
I know it's probably slightly blasphemous to some to talk about this on the night that Eclipse opens, but for me Harry Potter will always (always) be a superior set of books and films. I told Nate recently that he's lucky his first name isn't Harry and his middle name isn't Potter. That said, though, one of my favorite girl's names is Lily, the name of Harry's mother... but the hubby doesn't like it, so if we have a girl one day, I don't think she'll be a Lily, alas.
But I digress a bit... How fantastic is that trailer? I cannot wait for these two films, especially the final one. But I know that as excited as I'm going to be for Deathly Hallows, Part II, I'm also going to be remarkably sad because the whole Harry Potter thing will be officially over. Even if J.K. Rowling one day decides to write prequels or sequels, it'll never be the same.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch the trailer another three or four times.

I'm currently re-reading the series. Since I only read a few pages at a time before I fall asleep, it should take me until November to get through it. Mister and I will probably have a HP movie-fest before we go to see the final movie, part 1. Then we'll do it all again for part 2. I heard they're also including the epilogue in part 2, which I'm especially excited to see. And I'll probably cry when all the movies are over. I cried when I finished book 7 the first time.
I could never get into Twilight. I started reading the first book at the store one time to see what all the hype was about, and all I wanted to do was take a red pencil all over it.
I can't wait for these movies! Though, like you, I'm also dreading The End.
And for what it's worth, my 6 month old's name is Molly and though I promise it's not because of Molly Weasley, I do love the connection. My dog's name, however, is Potter, and he is named after Harry Potter. :)
@Kirsten - I read the whole series through a few times, especially right before I started my masters thesis (which was on HP) but I've also been thinking about going through them all start to finish, but I almost feel like it'd make me too sad. I cried when I finished Book 7, too, mostly because it was done (although I sob every time I read the scene with Harry in the woods with the Resurrection Stone).
I did read and enjoy Twilight, but in a kind of "suspended disbelief" kind of way. It's not great writing, but I could feel my inner teenager adoring the love story. It's not literature, though, which I believe HP is.
@Catherine - that is so great. I have a friend whose last name is Potter, though, so everyone would joke about how I named something after her. LOL
I felt the same way! I cannot wait for them to come out!!
I went to see Eclipse last night and squealed when they played this trailer (needless to say the whole crowd was cheering). I CANNOT wait for this movie! I'm rereading the books, but I want to wait to reread the last one until after the movies... otherwise I compare them too much :/
Potter is a fantastic name for a dog! And I'm with you, I love the name Lily but my husband's cousin has a Lily and it would be confusing... :-(
But I am SOOOO excited about Book 7 on film! One of the FEW movies that I will consider going to early and having to sit next to people I don't know in the theater. lol
Yes yes yes! I can't wait for this movie to come out. Now I need to finish re-reading the series...
