Just thinkin' about tomorrow...
Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 6:00PM I have decided to participate in NaBloPoMo again (see The Wayback Machine for January and April NaBloPoMo participation). Agreeing to participate in NaBloPoMo means that I will blog every day this month, which is easy enough since I blog nearly every day anyway. In addition, NaBloPoMo provides a theme for each month that you can blog on as you wish.
This month's theme is "tomorrow" so each day I plan to try to note at the end of each post what my plan for the next day is. I think it might be a fun exercise in seeing how often my days turn out to be how I expected them to be.
But let's talk about today for now (there goes the theme, as always). Today I got to sleep in and enjoy a lazy cup of coffee while doing my daily blog reading before hopping into the shower and getting going with the day's to-do list.
Tonight the hubby and I are going to a barbecue at his brother's house and I felt like making a dessert, so I decided on Cherry Crumb Cake, based on Bake or Break's Blueberry Crumb Cake. The hubby doesn't eat blueberries (*sigh*) or cinnamon (*sigh x 2*) so I did a little substituting. I used chopped cherries in place of the blueberries (as the site suggests is possible) and in place of the 1/2t cinnamon and 1/4t nutmeg, I used 1/2t nutmeg and 1/4t allspice. (I don't know what I'm going to do with all the cinnamon I have in my spice cabinet; I suppose I can save it and use it for gift cookies and cakes at Christmas.)
{This might be my fave food picture I've taken so far. I love how the cherries look.}
However, I baked something else first! I had two bananas about a day past their prime so I decided to find something to do with them: whole wheat banana honey mini-muffins! I decided to do mini-muffins instead of regular size muffins simply because I enjoy them more. And doesn't small food just taste better?
{They look a bit dry, but I promise the inside is moist and yummy.}
All in all, it was a successful day in the kitchen. I think I had a little helper spirit, though:

Now I'm covered in batter smudges and flour dust and I never put on any makeup or jewelry today (why would I?), so it's time to spiffy myself up, get pretty-fied, and head out so I can enjoy some grilled meat and good drinks.
Tomorrow: I'm going to see Harry Potter at the IMAX! Then I will probably order a salad at the spicy ribs place we're going to lunch. Then it's time to plan the weekly lunch/dinner menu and do the appropriate shopping. Sunday is my favorite day because it's the only day of the week both the hubby and I have off.

That cherry crumb cake looks soooo good! And so sad about the hubby's dislike of blueberries and cinnamon :( Hope you had a good time at the BBQ!
I totally going to steal your idea for blogging about tomorrow for NaBloPoMo :)
